How to get a High position on Google or Yahoo

It's easy and it's hard! There are millions of websites (more than 100 million, now!), and they all want to rate high on Google, and on Yahoo! So how do you do it? How can you do better than most others out there. The real question is, how do I get my website on the first page or two for the search terms that I have chosen?

There are lots of techniques, and I know some of them - I don't think there is a person alive who knows them all! - but they all rely on one thing. That one thing is attention to detail. You have to pay attention to every little thing that can improve your Google ranking.

Just recently we built the www.blanklabels.com.au website, and, by doing just that attention to detail, the www.blanklabels.com.au website was in position 4 page 1 on Google Australia for our search term 'blank label' in one month! Try it - go to Google Australia and click 'Australian Pages' and search for 'blank label'. The www.blanklabels.com.au website will come up in position 4 on page one. Since then we've moved up a couple of spots - we are now in position 2 page 1!

The experts call this 'search engine optimisation' and they will charge you many thousands of dollars to add it to your website at a later date. But actually it has to be done during the design process, at every level.  If you don't, it is practically impossible to 'retrofit' it properly once your website is built. It can be done - I will be doing one shortly, to quite a large website - but it is a lot of work and extra cost. If you do it during the construction the extra cost and time is minimal
